New research by TV and broadband experts, Uswitch, has revealed which are the most anticipated TV releases of 2022.
The research looked into popular TV shows produced by streaming giants: Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Disney Plus, Hulu and Apple TV, and then analysed Google search data to discover which up-and-coming series we’re Googling the most ahead of the release date.
The TV releases we’re most excited about in 2022
Season four of Netflix’s Stranger Things is the most anticipated release of 2022, receiving over one million global searches every month for the newest season. After a two year wait, it’s no surprise that fans are anxiously awaiting season four, which promises to be nearly double the runtime of previous seasons.
The Korean drama series, Squid Game, is the second-most anticipated release this year with nearly 723,000 searches made every month around the globe on Google. Despite having no confirmed release date, Netflix has confirmed there will be a second season as a result of the survival show being one of its most successful programmes yet.
Third on the list is Netflix’s Outer Banks – a teenage treasure hunt drama – which has nearly 307,000 global monthly searches from people who are keenly waiting for its third season, despite no release date having been announced yet. This is followed by yet another Netflix show, Ginny & Georgia, which is fourth on the list.
Despite Netflix original shows dominating the top five most anticipated shows, other streaming services also feature in the top 10. Loki, produced by Disney+, is fifth on the list, Apple TV’s Ted Lasso is seventh, and Amazon Prime’s Jack Ryan is ninth.
