GameMaker adds new particle editor and audio looping features to make creating great games easier than ever

Whether you’re just starting out or making your latest indie epic, building great games just got even easier with the release of the latest version of GameMaker – the multimillion downloaded 2D game development engine.

“With GameMaker, we’re continually focused on improving and refining the usability and design environment so that it’s accessible to absolutely everyone – no matter what level you’re at,” said Russell Kay, Head of GameMaker, adding: “With this latest update we’re remaining true to that mission, adding powerful new visual and audio creation features which make it super easy to add unique music and visual effects to your game.”

One of the most exciting new features included in the latest update is the Particle Editor, a new tool which makes creating visual effects a breeze – no coding required. Whether it’s creating flames, a laser blast or an electrical energy effect, with the Particle Editor you can select your effect from a range of presets, edit the effect to best match your design and then easily decide how it will appear in your game. It’s that simple.

Another big new feature that GameMaker users will love is Audio Loop Points. Before the latest update it was only possible to loop a whole audio track, not just sections of a track. But with Audio Loop Points you can now tell GameMaker where the loop section of a track begins and ends, allowing you to create a soundtrack which is as original as the game itself.

Finally, GameMaker has introduced No Login Start. This means users will no longer have to login every time they want to make a game or test run their game. Following the latest update, when you install and open GameMaker you will simply be taken straight to the start screen without any login prompts. Nice.
