The Minister for Finance and President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe TD, will travel to the Czech Republic and Slovakia for meetings with his ministerial counterparts on Monday and Tuesday, and onwards to London for a number of engagements.
In Prague, Minister Donohoe will meet with the Czech Minister for Finance, Zbynek Stanjura. Czech Republic holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 July to the end of the year, and the main purpose of this bilateral visit will be for the Ministers and their respective teams to plan the coordination of activities and priorities between Eurogroup and ECOFIN for the rest of the year.
In Bratislava on Tuesday, Minister Donohoe will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Igor Matovič. He will also have meetings with Prime Minister Eduard Heger, and Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia, Peter Kažimír.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Minister Donohoe stated:
“I look forward to meeting with Minister Stanjura in Prague to discuss the coordination of our respective Presidencies for the latter half of this year, as well as wider economic issues. I also look forward to meeting with Minister Matovič in his capital. These discussions with Eurogroup colleagues are vital for the strong coordination of economic and fiscal policies, which will become increasingly more important as the economic outlook becomes more challenging.”
Minister Donohoe will then travel on to London, to attend the Mansion House Financial and Professional Services Dinner on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday, Minister Donohoe will speak at a Bloomberg roundtable event with senior investors, on the global economic outlook, the euro area fiscal position, the Eurogroup’s work on coordination of budgetary policies, and other Eurogroup priorities.
