In 2021, GWM proposed the goal of zero carbon dioxide emissions in the next few years and introduced various new energy products to the foreign market to accelerate its new energy concept.

GWM launches a variety of new energy models

Driven by the new energy vehicle industry and market, GWM has pioneered the development of hybrid electric vehicles, especially HAVAL H6 HEV and HAVAL JOLION HEV in Thailand. Supported by HEV technology, these two vehicles can maintain low fuel consumption under various road conditions. In the event of a traffic jam, these models can directly switch from the gasoline engine to the electric motor, saving 35% to 50% fuel.

According to the official report, HAVAL H6 HEV has been among the top two vehicles in the C-Class SUV segment in Thailand for five months in a row, and the other vehicle is also highly appreciated by users for its excellent product performance.

Aiming to enter the mature European car market, GWM has also launched PHEV and BEV models and unveiled the high-end SUV WEY COFFEE 01 PHEV model at the 2021 International Motor Show in Munich. This model features strong performance and flexibility. It can quickly generate the combined power of fuel and electric energy to ensure the safety of users when overtaking, especially at high speeds.

GWM always focuses on technological innovation when developing new energies. After five years of preparation, the company has launched the L.E.M.O.N. DHT system with an investment of CNY 20 billion. The system can be compatible with HEV, PHEV and “PHEV+P4” and other power models, providing a certain level of technical convenience to the whole industry.

In the field of new energy research and development, GWM has explored other technical development paths, including HEVs, battery electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cells. Currently, the company has started hydrogen technology and completed the world’s first project to operate 100 hydrogen-powered 49-tonne heavy-duty trucks in August 2021.

As shown in the sales report for 2021, GWM has sold 136,953 vehicles with new energy, representing 10.7% of total sales (1.28 million). In the next four years, the company will continue to expand the layout of new energy vehicles and make further efforts to achieve the strategic goal of new energy vehicles accounting for 80% of total global sales.

“In the next five years, GWM would expect to invest up to a total of CNY 100 billion in R&D, especially in new energy and intelligence fields, to maintain its technically leading position and accelerate the realization of the goal of zero carbon emissions,” said Mu Feng, Rotating President of GWM, at the 2025 Strategy Global Launch Conference.
