UNIONDALE, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#doctors–Health Plus Management, a physician support organization (PSO) providing business management and operations services for independent physician practices specializing in musculoskeletal care, today announced that South Island Orthopedics has joined its expanding network of physician-owned practices. The practice has served Cedarhurst, New York, and the surrounding communities for more than 50 years. Previously, South Island Orthopedics had been part of a large hospital system.

“We are excited to add South Island Orthopedics to our growing network of clients, which marks a milestone both for South Island Orthopedics, as it transitions back into independent private practice after a period of being hospital-based, as well as for HPM, as we expand our service offerings into the orthopedic specialty,” said Stuart Blumberg, Health Plus Management, Chief Executive Officer. “We look forward to leveraging our practice-building expertise to support this well-established practice in the expansion of its service offerings and its geographic footprint. We anticipate that South Island Orthopedics’ longstanding heritage of providing the highest level of patient care coupled with our track record in administrative management will enable the practice to achieve optimal results both clinically and operationally.”

“The ability to retain the infrastructure we have developed over 50 years of practice and practice medicine in the way to which we are accustomed was an important factor in selecting Health Plus Management as our administrative support organization,” said Eric Freeman, MD, Managing Partner, South Island Orthopedics. “Having experienced both independent private practice and hospital-based practice, our leadership team recognized that Health Plus Management’s unique hybrid offering enabled us to retain our autonomy while focusing our time on patient care. Health Plus Management’s established record of management expertise and satisfied practice/provider-clients further supported our decision. Health Plus Management recognizes each practice is unique and creates a tailored solution. Our transition has been seamless, exceeding our expectations, with an incredible attention to detail from the first day of service.”

South Island Orthopedics is based in Cedarhurst, New York. It serves the “Five Towns” area of Long Island, as well as Rockaway, Long Beach and portions of Queens. Providing general orthopedics, orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, the group has been in practice for more than 50 years.

HPM supports physicians across all phases of growth, from the start-up and launch of new sites, to practice expansion and improvement of efficiencies within well-established practices. As with South Island Orthopedics, HPM also supports the transition of practices from hospital-based to independent physician owned and operated. Designed to support physician owners, the HPM turnkey business model provides a full range of non-medical operations services, including site selection and buildout, front and back office management, marketing, human resources support, technology and reporting.

Health Plus Management was acquired by Investcorp, a leading global provider and manager of alternative investment products, in January 2019. Based in Long Island, Health Plus Management was founded in 1994 by its current CEO, Stuart Blumberg.
