World’s Largest Marine Mammal Hospital & AltaSea at Port of Los Angeles
WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Vectis DC, the Washington, DC-based government affairs firm, has announced two important new clients to begin the decade: The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA, the largest marine mammal hospital in the world, and AltaSea, a unique public-private ocean institute located at the Port of Los Angeles.
“We’re extremely honored to work with two cutting-edge, innovative organizations focused on oceans,” said Don Polese, Vectis DC managing partner. “With 75% of the earth’s surface covered by oceans and only 5% of it yet explored, there is great opportunity and need to advance ocean conservation efforts, discovery, and advance the blue economy. The Marine Mammal Center and AltaSea help accomplish all of this.”
Located on the site of a former Cold War missile base, The Marine Mammal Center is a global leader in marine mammal health, science and conservation, and is the largest marine mammal hospital in the world. The Center’s teaching hospital and training programs operate globally, with its headquarters in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, part of the National Park Service. Expert teams from the Center travel around the world to work with emerging first responders and has itself rescued more than 23,000 marine mammals from 600 miles of its authorized rescue area of California coastline and the Big Island of Hawaii. The Center’s mission is to advance global ocean conservation through marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation, scientific research, and education.
AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is creating a world-class ocean-based campus where science, business and education come together to generate innovative solutions to the most critical global sustainability issues today: food, energy, and climate security. AltaSea accelerates scientific collaboration, facilitates job creation, and inspires the next generation for a more sustainable ocean. Built on a historic pier with access to the deep ocean, AltaSea’s campus brings people together to expand science-based understanding of the ocean; incubate and sustain ocean-related business; and pioneer new ocean-related education programs.
“As Californians, we have a special stewardship for the ocean. I often remind people that it was then Republican Governor Ronald Reagan who created the California Coastal Commission to protect California’s coastline. Today, its up to all of us to do our part too. We are proud to support this legacy of stewardship in representing the Marine Mammal Center and AltaSea in our nation’s capital,” said Polese.
