ALTBalaji to Launch its New Web-series ‘Baarish’ Starring Asha Negi and Priya Banerjee at vIDEA 2019

vIDEA 2019 is a video industry awards and conference being organized in Mumbai by Inkspell Media

The much awaited web series by ALTBalaji – ‘Baarish’ will be officially launched at vIDEA 2019 – the Video Media Awards and Summit. vIDEA is a unique initiative by Inkspell Media to recognize and acknowledge the champions of the video content and media industry, and bring them to the center stage at a national forum with global exposure. Additionally, the idea behind developing this program is to get the veterans and experts from the industry together to discuss the leading trends and opportunities, address key concerns in the domains, and draw a roadmap for the growth of the video media.

Leading brands, agencies, and individuals in the video content space will be recognized through several categories of awards viz. Video Marketing Awards, Sector Specific Video Awards, Website Awards, App Awards, Genre Specific Awards, Video Enabler Awards, and Apex Awards. vIDEA Short-film Contest is another interesting addition to the program wherein both budding as well as professional filmmakers can submit their movies.

Veterans and experts from the industry shall come together to discuss and share insights on the key topics pertaining to the video media industry, including:

  • Democratization of Media in a ‘Video First’ ecosystem
  • Video Monetization: Contextualizing the money-making model with the media and audience type
  • Product Placement: Role of video content in expanding the scope of embedded marketing for brands

EPIC TV Announces Expansion and New Ventures

EPIC TV – India ka apna infotainment channel; has divulged strategic expansion plans through diversification across various media verticals. A pioneer in it’s genre as the country’s only Hindi-language, India-centric infotainment channel; the company has revealed a vision of organizing and building itself as a media network, with new ventures across every touch-point of the content life-cycle; that would consolidate under the banner of ‘IN10 Media’.

As part of its expansion plans, the company also announced the launch of two new television channels to go on air later this year – EPIC Plus, an HD offering; and ShowBox, a Free-To-Air channel.

EPIC Plus would be a separate feed and the content offering would strengthen EPIC’s positioning, and further its brand promise of showcasing high quality, premium, India-centric content. ShowBox is slated to be a regional youth and music channel, high on appeal and energy that will push the boundaries of quality entertainment in the regional space.

IN10 will also house under it’s umbrella, LatestLY – India’s fastest growing digital news portal; which is well on its way to becoming a digital-only, 24/7 multi-lingual news network. LatestLY, in less than a year of its inception, beat popular news media portals to be among the top 15 biggest news portals (comScore India data).

The company also operates an OTT platform – EPIC On – a freemium app available across all devices and several platforms including Amazon Fire TV, Android & Apple TV. It provides both catch-up opportunity, and selectively curated acquired content that has high affinity to its loyal audience base. EPIC On too would sit under the IN10 umbrella.

While the EPIC brand aligns under the headline of ‘India’s Storytellers’; IN10 Media also disclosed the upcoming release of a worldwide OTT offering in the niche of global documentaries. Named ‘DocuBay’, the premium SVOD service is scheduled for an exclusive first look of its beta release for the documentary community at Cannes, France, later this month.

The company hinted at announcements of other upcoming verticals in the near future, including its ambitions of being a platform-agnostic content creator, for which it intends to set up a production house catering to the every rising demand for content, especially in the booming digital market, while also servicing other broadcasters.

Linius successfully tests world’s first virtual-video blockchain

Linius has successfully validated this capability; that virtual video may be embedded in a blockchain, and smart contracts used to control the transactions associated with video files.

“Linius aims to fulfil the promise of blockchain and move beyond cryptocurrencies,” said Linius CEO, Chris Richardson. “We feel this is the natural evolution of our anti-piracy strategy and we aim to use blockchain to protect, distribute and monetize the video itself.”

On 20 December 2017, Linius announced plans to deliver the world’s first video blockchain, publishing its Linius Blockchain Strategy.

The company remains committed to delivering the benefits of blockchain to the video industry. Potential benefits include:

  • Anti-piracy: Video assets and viewers can be validated prior to playing the video, eliminating improper play-out of the video.
  • Auditability: Content owners, such as studios, can have complete visibility and control across the entire distribution chain, maintained automatically, removing intermediaries and expanding margins.
  • New revenues: Users are sharing content right now, often illegally. Current anti-piracy actions attempt to stop this behaviour. The Linius Blockchain accepts this behaviour but ensures content owners are paid for it.

The details of the successful test are as follows:

  1. Linius virtualized several videos of different sizes, stored in the cloud on Amazon S3
  2. On a private instance of Ethereum (a world leading, blockchain based distributed computing platform), Linius generated a smart contract to control transactions against the virtual video
  3. Linius then successfully uploaded the virtual video into the blockchain, executed the smart contract transaction (with associated mining), and successfully retrieved a copy of the virtual video based on the criteria of the contract
  4. That retrieved virtual video was then validated with ISOviewer

“The company believes that this represents a major step forward, in that it validates Linius’ initial thesis regarding virtual video on blockchain,” said Richardson. “With traditional video, a blockchain would be impossibly big. And, the Internet standard video format MP4 does not work in blockchain. Virtual videos are ideally suited to digital assets, which can be recorded, transferred and managed by a blockchain.”

In the coming weeks, Linius intends to have the virtual video playing on a blockchain-aware player. At that point, Linius anticipates hosting a webinar to demonstrate this functionality.
