More than 75,000 students take part in Malcolm Mitchell’s READBowl National Reading Competition

Over 75,000 students are participating in Read with Malcolm READBowl 2019 across 3,000 class rooms over the entire USA. The youth literacy initiative was launched by NFL Super Bowl Champion and author Malcolm Mitchell and his nonprofit organisation Share the Magic Foundation. “We are thrilled to launch READBowl to support teachers across the country in engaging their students in a national reading competition,” said Mitchell. “READBowl was created to help young and striving readers discover and enhance their passion for reading. To all the students competing, I am watching you and reading along with you.”

READBowl—a free national reading competition for Pre-K to 8th grade classrooms and established after-school programmes—began today, the same day as the College Football National Championship game, and will run through Friday, February 1. Weekly prizes are provided by First Book and Share the Magic Foundation. Mitchell will announce the READBowl grand prize winners on Super Bowl Sunday, February 3. Registration is free and remains open through Friday, January 11. Teachers may register their classes at:

READBowl offers a big-game atmosphere and a personal connection to Malcolm Mitchell, with a goal to inspire students through a friendly classroom-based reading competition. While Mitchell struggled to read as a child, athletics provided him a path to higher education. He became one of the top wide receivers in the University of Georgia’s history. In 2016, he was drafted by the New England Patriots; and during his rookie year, he played a crucial role in the Patriot’s historic overtime comeback win in Super Bowl 51. In addition to success on the field, Mitchell is the author of “The Magician’s Hat” and is now working on his second children’s book with Scholastic Publishing.

Airstream announces public cleanup campaign Across America

Airstream, the manufacturer of “silver bullet” travel trailer, has announced that it would conduct public campsite cleanup campaigns across the country The campaign, named Campsite Cleanup Campaign, will be conducted as a partnership between Airstream and the National Forest Foundation (NFF).

“Our forests were really impacted,” said Bob Wheeler, Airstream President and CEO. “In addition to re-opening campgrounds, the NFF and Forest Service are hard at work clearing trees and trails, improving access, cleaning restrooms, and picking up trash. This campaign is about leveraging our strong Airstream community to help preserve our public lands and get families and friends outdoors.”

The Campsite Cleanup Campaign will direct contributions from the Airstream community and supportive public to the National Forest Foundation. Every dollar raised goes directly to the NFF to support the clean up of campsites and campground facilities and improve access to roads and trails impacted by the partial shutdown.

As part of its Leave It Beautiful program, Airstream will match donations up to $25,000 given to the NFF, which has the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator.

“Our National Forests and Grasslands provide recreation and adventure for millions of visitors each year,” said Mary Mitsos, National Forest Foundation President and CEO. “After a closure, it’s important that we redouble our efforts to ensure campsites, trails, and byways are accessible for families to see and explore. We’re thrilled to have the Airstream community as our partner.”

SuperCom gains contract for Electronic Monitoring Project in Estonia

SuperCom Ltd. has secured a contract with the national government of Estonia to deploy its Pure Security Electronic Monitoring (EM) Suite with an emphasis on house arrest. This project was formally awarded in November 2018 through a formal bid process.

This nationwide programme with the country’s Ministry of Justice will cover all cases requiring house arrest within the country, with a simultaneous unit count starting at 200 and an option to grow up to 400. The project will be billed at a per-unit daily rate and generate steady-state recurring revenues accordingly. The total duration of the contract is up to 4.5 years.

“We are pleased to begin work on this contract award,” said company President and CEO Arie Trabelsi. “As in many of our previous awards, we competed against other providers for this business and displaced the incumbent EM vendor who had been in place for the past 10 years in this country. We expect to begin generating recurring revenues from this new business within a few months of today’s announcement, and we look forward to seeing additional wins around the globe as more and more countries shift to a more modernised approach to alternatives to incarceration such as our EM offerings”, he added.

Agilon Health, a US-based healthcare agency, has launched 60 Strong Ambassadors programme in collaboration with US physicians to help the 60-plus people to fight the chronic health conditions and share the inspiring stories of the seniors. The company has chosen number of 60 Strong Ambassadors as community leaders and are “pin ups” in 2019 calendars featuring events and activities seniors enjoy.

When Ben Barlin, a 60 Strong Ambassador in Austin, was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer, he could have wallowed in self-pity. “Instead, I decided to summit Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere,” he says.

Angela Bosela, an Akron 60 Strong Ambassador who had 70 per cent of her stomach removed in 2007 and endured chemotherapy and radiation treatments, was inspired to become a competitive runner.

“After cheering for my daughter at a race, I was motivated to start running,” Angela says. “I’ve now completed 200 races, including a marathon and 15 half marathons, and I often place in my age group.”

Kevin Spencer, M.D., Medical Director for the Austin-based partnership with Agilon health and Chairman of the Board of Premier Family Physicians, says, “All of the winners in the 60 Strong Campaign are very inspiring. They struggle with debilitating health issues, but make fitness a priority. They also donate tremendous time to charitable organisations.”

The 60 Strong initiative was launched by Agilon health with its partnership practices: Austin Regional Clinic and Premier Family Physicians, Austin; Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians, Columbus; and Pioneer Physicians Network, Akron. Later this year, Sixty Strong Calendar Contests will roll out in several other markets, including Pittsburg and Dayton. The Ambassadors speak at Medicare expos and senior events. While their life challenges differ, they all have a common philosophy about maintaining good health—a growing concern in this age group.

The Centers for Disease Control reports three in four US adults aged 65 and older have chronic diseases, such as cancer, heart disease or diabetes. Those numbers are expected to rise significantly with a growing population and increased life expectancy. The Population Reference Bureau estimates the number of Americans 65 and older will more than double from 46 million today to 98 million by 2060.
