TORONTO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Polar Asset Management Partners Inc. (“Polar”), congratulates its Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer Paul Sabourin, who received a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LLD) from Ivey Business School, Western University, as part of Ivey’s 100th Fall Convocation ceremony. Mr. Sabourin was recognized for his philanthropy, outstanding leadership, and dedication, to the Canadian business community.
In his Convocation address to students, parents, faculty, and dignitaries, Mr. Sabourin explained that a fulfilling life and career is built on lifelong learning, earned achievement, and volunteerism and philanthropy. He encouraged students to find partners, allies, and mentors; to know and live their personal values; and to practice kindness and compassion.
Mr. Sabourin co-founded Polar in 1991 and helped build it into Canada’s leading hedge fund. He developed and refined the firm’s best-in-class investment strategy in his role overseeing the investment management team. Mr. Sabourin encouraged and fostered a culture of integrity and excellence at Polar, and his commitment to the firm and his partners is illustrated by the firm’s track record and longevity. He was also a leading proponent in the formation of the Polar Foundation. Funded primarily from annual contributions by Polar, the Foundation is structured to encourage future generations of business leaders to adopt Mr. Sabourin’s commitment to philanthropy.
He is an active member of the Ivey community, having served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Ivey Business School and is past Chair of the Morrisette Entrepreneurship Advisory Board at Western University. Mr. Sabourin is the Chair of the Trillium Health Partners Foundation Board, and co-chair of Trillium Hospital’s Capital Campaign, as they embark on building the largest hospital in Canada. Paul serves on the Canadian and Indigenous Acquisitions Committee at the AGO and has actively supported the annual fundraising campaign of the United Way Toronto for over 30 years.
