BURNABY, British Columbia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Union Protein Project announced the hiring of Chloe Baron as Executive Director. Baron’s experience in the non-profit sector and as a volunteer in UPP’s early forums means she is well-placed to build on the organization’s current success. UPP is a non-profit society started in 2006 by B.C. unions and the United Way to make a real difference in communities for those facing food insecurity.
“We are excited about this next phase of our growth,” said UPP President Scott Lunny. “With Chloe in this dedicated role, we will be able to do even more for families facing food insecurity. We have expanded recently to work with more foodbanks, including in remote and rural communities, as the need for shelf-stable protein has skyrocketed, and more unions and members are joining our efforts.”
“I am really looking forward to this opportunity,” adds Chloe Baron. “UPP has so many strong community partnerships, and I am excited to work together to address the shortage of much-needed protein at BC’s food banks. We will continue to highlight the need for good jobs, respect and dignity for every worker, as this plays a big role in eliminating food insecurity in our communities.”
Baron’s focus will be fundraising, the community forums which were on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and future projects. “We have seen a huge need in communities across B.C. both during the pandemic and after with rising inflation and steep increases in the cost of living,” said Lunny. “The addition of Chloe to our team means we can meet this growing need while continuing important outreach and education around food security and the benefits of good jobs.”
