BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#CommunityChampions–eternalHealth, a Massachusetts-based Medicare Advantage Plan, is teaming with two local sports legends, Baseball Hall of Fame inductee David “Big Papi” Ortiz and Boston Marathon Women’s Pioneer Bobbi Gibb, to honor community champions who are going above and beyond in terms of proactive health and wellness initiatives, preventive care, and community engagements for older adults.

“We have seen exceptional leadership and important work being done by healthcare providers, senior centers, and elsewhere in the community,” said Pooja Ika, eternalHealth CEO. “We want to honor these community champions in a special way.”

“Because our client, eternalHealth, is a proud partner of the Boston Red Sox and David Ortiz is their spokesperson, we wanted to create an inspirational Community Champion Recognition Program that also includes an exceptionally distinctive experience to appropriately honor the selected Community Champions,” Integrated Sports Media President Cheryl Jacobs explained.

Integrated Sports Media commissioned Ms. Gibb to create a unique award for eternalHealth’s Community Champion. Gibb created a custom bronze sculpture depicting Ortiz’s iconic swing as he “hits the ball out of the park.” “It is a true work of art,” Ms. Jacobs added. “It is a bronze statue made by a champion, of a champion, for a champion, to be presented at famed Fenway Park by eternalHealth CEO Pooja Ika, ‘Big Papi’ and Bobbi Gibb. It’s an experience of a lifetime.”

Gibb is known as the first woman to run and complete the prestigious Boston Marathon, but she is also a gifted contemporary artist who created bronze sculptures for the 1984 Women’s Olympic Marathon

Trials. Age doesn’t define the 80-year-old Gibb. She is an advocate of eternalHealth’s important message, staying active both mentally and physically, eating well and living agelessly. Bobbi continues to run as much as 10 miles a day through local trails and on the beach.
