OLDWICK, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–AM Best will present a session on its credit rating process at the Society of Actuaries’ (SOA) Health Meeting, which will be held June 26-28, 2023, in Seattle, WA.
AM Best Director Doniella Pliss and Associate Director Bridget Maehr will lead the session, titled, “Health Insurance Companies Capital – A Rating Agency View” at 9:45 a.m. (PDT) on Monday, June 26. Topics during the session to be explored include the rating agency’s Best Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), a quantitative foundation for AM Best’s assessment of carriers’ financial strength. Additionally, the pair will discuss benchmarking of BCAR scores for various company types, and how changes in the investment and underwriting environments have impacted results over the last several years. Also, AM Best’s view of the quality of capital and various factors impacting the overall assessment of balance sheet strength will be addressed.
