Architectural and design firm AC Design & Development is looking to complete more projects outside its traditional home markets of New York and New Jersey
New Rochelle, New York–(Newsfile Corp. – June 13, 2023) – AC Design & Development, a woman-owned architectural and interior design company based in New York, has revealed its plans to expand its services to other areas of the US, as well as overseas.
As a full-service firm, AC Design & Development manages projects from inception to completion. It starts work on the preliminary budget, then helps source materials and recommends contractors to bid on the project. After finishing the schematic drawings, it files the jobs with the local government and closes out the project after construction. Around 75% of its work is for homeowners and residential properties, while the remainder is for commercial spaces.
Established in 2009, AC Design & Development has completed more than 100 projects, most of which are located in the New York-New Jersey region. It has also completed projects in North Carolina, and its first overseas forays were in Jamaica and Honduras.
According to AC Design & Development co-founder Aishah Coleman, the company is looking to massively expand domestically in the next three years, especially along the US’ East Coast. It’s particularly targeting to do more projects in North Carolina and neighboring Georgia, followed by projects further north from its home base in New York, such as in the New England region, before heading west.
The firm has also completed projects in Jamaica and Honduras virtually, even before online conferencing tools became mainstream in the midst of the pandemic. Floor plans were sent via email and double checked through video calls.
“We also have a potential kitchen design project in Ghana. We’ve already given the client the cost proposal, and we’re waiting on their approval. It’s really exciting that we’re able to do projects in different parts of the world virtually, but we’re also looking at hiring staff and actually setting up shop in other countries. That way, we can have feet on the ground and be able to manage the project on a day-to-day basis, conducting site visits when needed,” Coleman says.
Coleman has been in the architecture and interior design industries for three decades, and has been running AC Design & Development for almost 14 years. She says that she is overseeing the firm’s expansion and aims to set it up for the future and ensure it is in good hands before she retires. This includes potential partnerships with other companies in the space, including those overseas.
“Breaking into a new market is challenging, so I’m definitely open to exploring potential partnerships. I don’t believe in closing doors on opportunities, just because I’m not physically there. Technology has proven that it’s possible to work over long distances, even before the pandemic. People can be stationed in New York and do projects in Tokyo, thanks to their partners that are working there.”
