WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Electing a Democratic Generation (EDGE), a network of young democratic government relations professionals in Washington, DC, is relaunching to support the next generation of Democratic leaders in Congress. The mission of EDGE is to empower young, diverse leaders by providing financial support to candidates who reflect the diversity and priorities of the communities they represent.
“We are thrilled to relaunch EDGE and continue our commitment to supporting up and coming leaders in the Democratic caucus,” said Katie Phillips, the organization’s co-leader. “As we’ve witnessed over the past few years, the future of our democracy depends on a new generation of leaders who better reflect the diversity of our country. With eighteen new members who are in their 20s and 30s and a record number of Latinos elected to serve in the 118th Congress, the mission of EDGE is more important and relevant than ever.”
EDGE will kick off its relaunch with a reception on January 25, 2023. The event will be a celebration of the group’s revival after a COVID-induced hiatus and serve as an introduction to the organization for new members.
“During the 2018 election cycle, EDGE provided important opportunities for emerging leaders to develop their professional networks while supporting results-oriented, pragmatic legislators who understand the importance of working in a bipartisan manner,” said Jason Ortega, the organization’s co-leader. “During that cycle, we raised over $100,000 and knocked on more than 15,000 doors. We’ve seen strong interest around this relaunch and are excited to have the chance to build upon our successes as we continue working to support the election of young, diverse leaders in the upcoming election cycle and beyond.”
