BRANDON, Manitoba–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Meighen Haddad LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of Partner David Swayze as King’s Counsel (KC) by the Government of Manitoba.
King’s Counsel is a prestigious title bestowed on a lawyer in recognition of their professional excellence, integrity and significant contribution to the practice of law. On January 1, 2023, David was among 17 Manitoba lawyers recognized by the province for their outstanding achievements in the legal profession and commitment to mentorship and legal education.
The King’s Counsel designation is a reflection of David’s work ethic and dedication to serving clients and the community. For the past 25 years, David has successfully built a management side labour and employment law practice. He became a Partner in Meighen Haddad LLP in 2003, and represents clients from the public, non-profit and business sectors. He has appeared before all levels of courts in Manitoba as well as numerous administrative tribunals.
David is a Life Bencher of the Law Society of Manitoba, having served as President of the Law Society from 2013 to 2014. The Law Society appointed David as Manitoba’s representative to the Council of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada from 2014 to 2020, where he Chaired the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII) Nominating Committee and the National Standing Committee on the Model Code of Professional Conduct. David remains a member of the Law Society of Manitoba’s Discipline Committee and is the Manitoba Director to the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers.
In addition to his work at Meighen Haddad LLP, David frequently provides educational seminars on labour, employment and human rights law to human resource professionals, clients, business groups and fellow lawyers. He has been a co-chair of the CBA-FLSC Ethics Forum in Toronto and the Pitblado Lectures. David received his Bachelor of Law degree from Dalhousie University and was called to the Bar of Manitoba in 1998.
