Want To Drive a Ford Bronco Sport Before Your Friends? Rent One on Turo

With Broncomania in full effect, it might come as no surprise that even the Bronco Sportthe full-fat Bronco’s baby brother—is quite the hot commodity at the moment. We recently discovered it is mighty capable and much more than just an off-roadable version of the Escape SUV it’s based on. In fact, it might be more than enough to satisfy all your Bronco needs, and the best way to find out is to get behind the wheel of one.

The only problem is a test drive at your local dealership usually isn’t long enough to get a real feel for what the Bronco Sport—or any car, for that matter—can really do. Luckily Turo, the app-based car sharing service, seems to the perfect solution to this particular problem.

If you aren’t familiar with Turo, here’s a quick rundown. It’s like any rental car service: You put in your location, for how long you’ll need the car, and what kind of car you want. But because owners are renting their cars directly to you, the catalogue of cars available is much, much deeper than anything you’ll find at your local Hertz.

There’s at least one Bronco Sport already available for rent in San Francisco: an Outer Banks-trimmed car painted in Area 51 gray. Power comes courtesy of a turbocharged inline three cylinder that makes 181 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. Outer Banks is probably the right spec for urban environs like San Francisco, but it lacks some of the top-trim Badlands’ standard off-road kit (like the off-road ready suspension, upgraded rear axle, and extra-high ride height). But it does still offer Ford’s G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Terrain) modes and luxury goodies like a heated steering wheel and leather-trimmed seats.

But the best part is you can have this Bronco Sport for as long as you’re willing to pay for it, so you’ll certainly get a sense of what the middle-of-the-road trimmed Outer Banks car can do. And there might be other Bronco Sports out there, in other markets, so it’s worthwhile to keep searching. After all, if you want to experience the Bronco Sport and see if it’s right for you, this is probably the quickest and easiest way to do it short of, well, buying one.
