MLB Outfielder and Players for the Planet Founder Chris Dickerson Joins Impact Podcast

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A lineup of experts and impactful thought leaders, including former Major League Baseball outfielder and founder of Players for the Planet, Chris Dickerson, has been announced for the current season of the Impact Podcast with John Shegerian. The show is hosted by Shegerian, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of ERI, the nation’s leading fully integrated IT and electronics asset disposition provider and cybersecurity-focused hardware destruction company.

Drafted as a senior in high school by The New York Yankees, Dickerson decided to go on to college instead and spent the next three years at the University of Nevada, Reno until he was drafted in his junior year by the Cincinnati Reds. He made his major league debut with the Reds in 2008. Dickerson’s MLB career spanned eight seasons and teams including the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Indians.

Although playing professional baseball was always Dickerson’s dream, his passion has consistently been the environment and trying to find solutions. The huge amounts of plastic cups used at every major league game prompted Dickerson and fellow baseball player Jack Cassel to team up to address the devastation of plastics on the environment by establishing Players for the Planet, an organization that brings professional athletes together to inspire communities and build awareness of the growing environmental crises we face globally. The organization participates in major recycling and clean-up programs and sponsors educational seminars.

Other participating athletes include Robinson Cano, Jay Bruce, Ryan Braun, Evan Longoria, Tyler Glasgow, and Nelson Cruz, among others. Dickerson continues be involved in baseball with appearances as a studio analyst for MLB Network and serves as a board member for The Players Alliance.

“I was flattered to be on the show given some of the exemplary figures that have been on with John,” said Dickerson. “I had a great time talking about taking action to solve some of the world’s biggest environmental issues and also mixing in some good laughs. A typical conversation with John. Always a blast.”

“It was an honor to have Chris on our show,” said Shegerian. “He’s a perfect example of someone who has used his platform – in this case, Major League Baseball – to proactively do something impactful to help protect our planet. Through his superb organization, Players for the Planet, he is truly making a big difference. I’m sure our listeners will be both entertained and inspired by Chris’ story and passion for the environmental change.”
