Rental Affordability Act Endorsed by Our Revolution

Widespread support mounts for the ballot initiative, which if passed will benefit millions of CA renters and communities

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#housingjustice–Housing justice advocates and backers of the Rental Affordability Act (RAA), a November 2020 state ballot initiative that will allow for expansion of rent control throughout California, are proud to announce that Our Revolution has endorsed the ballot measure.

Our Revolution is the latest organization to join an ever-growing list of high-profile individuals and organizations, including Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT), Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), every elected rent control board in California, the Cities of West Hollywood and Santa Monica, and Courage California to endorse the fight for rent control.

“Our Revolution is proud to endorse the Rental Affordability Act. Too many Californians have suffered displacement and homelessness due to the ongoing affordable housing crisis. The real estate industry is the largest donor and lobbyist in California, and it shows. This is why it is so important for working-class people to organize to fight back and demand real solutions to this issue. Californians must pass the Rental Affordability Act in November because the rent is too damn high,” said Brandon Harami, of San Francisco Our Revolution.

With millions of Californians out of work and struggling with the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the call for stronger tenant protections has grown more urgent.

“We are thrilled to have the support of Our Revolution, an organization that is committed to fighting for the needs of the people and progressive issues nationwide. Our Revolution joins the ranks of countless supporters in the fight for housing justice in California.” René Christian Moya, Housing Is A Human Right and Rental Affordability Act Campaign Director.

The Rental Affordability Act is sponsored by Homeowners & Tenants United, with significant funding by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
