Swanson-Rivenbark of Best Practice Cities Re-Appointed as Baldrige National Board Examiner

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Cathy Swanson-Rivenbark, President of Best Practice Cities, LLC, has been reappointed to the National Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award where she serves as a local government sector expert.

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is the nation’s highest recognition for organizational performance excellence through innovation and strategic improvement. In 2019, Swanson-Rivenbark helped evaluate a Tennessee city which became one of the six national Baldrige winners and only the fourth local government to have earned the all-industry excellence award since its inception in 1987 by an act of Congress. When warranted, the Baldrige Award may be given annually in six national categories: manufacturing, service, small business, education, health care and nonprofit (including local government).

I’m honored to be reappointed to the Board of Examiners,” Swanson-Rivenbark said. “The examiners’ accomplishments and the commitment to excellence and integrity demonstrated by many of the applicants makes the review process both rigorous and inspiring.” The exhaustive application process reflects a multiyear commitment and requires a thorough inspection of an organization’s leadership and governance; strategy development and deployment; customer service; workforce development; performance measurements and results.

As a credentialed City Manager committed to transformational government, strategic planning, workforce engagement and performance excellence, Baldrige fits naturally with my skill sets,” Swanson-Rivenbark said. In addition to her leadership as an accomplished City Manager, Swanson-Rivenbark maintains certifications with the American Institute of Certified Planners and the International Economic Development Council where she is a volunteer member on the national Resource Recovery Team. The three certifications demonstrate an unwavering commitment to life-long learning, best practice performance and professional ethics.

Swanson-Rivenbark was City Manager for two southeast Florida cities before starting her own government consulting practice where she has assembled a team of high energy high integrity leaders to help local governments and nonprofits achieve the highest level of performance. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Purdue University and a master’s degree in Urban Planning with a concentration in local economic development from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
