CUPE 498 Statement on Absolute Discharge of Harold Lewis

PORT COQUITLAM, British Columbia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–CUPE 498, the union representing workers at the City of Port Coquitlam, is issuing the following statement regarding the absolute discharge of Harold Lewis.

We are pleased that Mr. Lewis received an absolute discharge.

CUPE Local 498 members go above and beyond to serve the people of Port Coquitlam. We are disappointed that City management continues to claim, publicly, that our members engaged in a ‘longstanding and coordinated scheme to steal from the City. We find it interesting that this statement would be made again given that no other employees were criminally charged by the RCMP.

A decision has not yet been issued in the termination arbitrations affecting six other employees. We will accept the arbitrator’s findings and no further comments will be made until that time.”
