University of Texas Student Wins EO Houston Qualifiers for the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards

Mandeep Patel from ElecTrip to Compete in National Global Student Entrepreneur Awards and in the running for a cash prize

HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The EO Houston chapter of Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), the world’s leading peer-to-peer network of successful business leaders, today announced Mandeep Patel, a student of University of Texas as the champion of the EO Houston Qualifying rounds of the Global Student Entrepreneurs Awards (GSEA).

GSEA is EO’s premier awards program for students who own or operate a business while attending college or university. The qualifier competition hosted by EO Houston this year saw the participation of over 7 students from 3 local colleges and universities. Student entrepreneurs competed against peers and were judged by prominent entrepreneur judges including Vu Nguyen, Samson Odhiambo, Shoshi Kaganovsky, Tyler Bray. Mandeep Patel now makes his way to the Silicon Valley at the Startup Grind Conference sponsored by Google for the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards US Nationals on February 10, 2020. One student from the competition will go off to the Global Finals in Cape Town, Africa.

Sharing his excitement about the win, Mandeep Patel said, “When a young entrepreneur gets the opportunity to be in a room full of successful entrepreneurs, it makes us want to work hard as hell. GSEA shows us that consistent hard work will eventually get us there-to that successful business that adds value to the community and makes us feel accomplished.”

Mandeep Patel is a UT Austin Mechanical Engineering student and founder of ElecTrip-a city to city EV service that uses Tesla vehicles! Mandeep has previous experiences interning at United, Lockheed Martin, and BP. However, he turned down a full time offer in order to run ElecTrip. Growing up in Houston to immigrant parents, he developed a solid work ethic that works well with the structured thinking he’s developing at UT.

His Company: ElecTrip provides efficient ways to get from city to city in the Texas triangle. Flying is unreliable – last year, 20% off all flights out of Hobby were delayed or cancelled. Busing doesn’t provide the flexibility for 8am client meetings in Dallas. Driving decimates productivity. The solution, ElecTrip, is a comfortable, productive, and efficient way to travel. We use Teslas equipped with Wi-Fi and laptop charging.

Participants in the GSEA competition are college or university students and entrepreneurs that are primarily responsible for a business that has been operational for at least six consecutive months. Last year over 55 students from 55 countries participated in the GSEA. This year the stage has been set to receive over 2000 students who are competing in local and national rounds as winners make their way to the final in Toronto, Canada.
