NEXT Trucking Expands Drayage Marketplace After Successful Beta Program

Expands Access to Port Loads and Gives More Truck Drivers New Ways to Make $1,000 Per Day

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–NEXT Trucking, a FreightTech pioneer that connects shippers and carriers, concludes a successful beta program that allowed qualified independent owner operators and small fleet drivers to access port loads directly through NEXT’s mobile app. The beta facilitated round trip booking, enabling a driver to take a container from the port to a yard, drop it off for transloading, and then return with a separate empty container. Through the pilot program, drivers were able to virtually eliminate wasted miles, save on gas while maximizing hours of service, and increase efficiency and earning potential.

For shippers, the drayage marketplace adds transparency to the traditionally opaque drayage process. NEXT’s app and data capabilities enable real-time visibility on the status of freight, allowing shippers to know the second their shipment leaves the port and know when they’re at risk of accruing fees before they happen. In addition, the drayage marketplace gives shippers a platform to get their containers out of the terminals quickly to more accurately calculate arrival times.

“Our drivers have regularly provided feedback that it’s important to be close to home, whether that’s to sleep in their own bed or to be around their families,” said Lidia Yan, CEO of NEXT Trucking. “Our drayage marketplace pilot proved this is an option, while increasing earnings; last month, we paid a driver more than $1,000 in a day over 850 times.”

As a result of the successful beta program, NEXT will open its drayage marketplace to more drivers, enabling them to take advantage of the company’s early learnings and gain access to high-paying, local routes. Drivers who meet the qualifications for drayage work, such as having a TWIC Card, will soon start to see drayage loads automatically populate when they open the NEXT app on their smartphone.
