Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and OhioHealth Continue Relationship to Improve Older Adults’ Health

OhioHealth returns to Anthem’s Medicare Advantage provider network

CINCINNATI–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Anthem) and OhioHealth announced today that the two organizations have come to an agreement that allows consumers in Anthem’s Medicare Advantage health plans to see OhioHealth’s care providers on an in-network basis. Seeing in-network providers for care results in lower out-of-pocket costs for consumers, compared to seeking care outside of Anthem’s provider network.

“We welcome having OhioHealth back in our Medicare Advantage network because our members will now have increased access to the high-quality care and services offered by OhioHealth throughout the state,” said David McNichols, President of Anthem’s Medicare Central Region. “Anthem is committed to improving the lives of consumers by taking a whole-person approach to health. Giving our members the ability to more easily see OhioHealth’s wide range of specialties and services aligns with that philosophy.”

OhioHealth is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit, healthcare organization based in Columbus, Ohio. Serving its communities since 1891, it is a family of 30,000 associates, physicians and volunteers, 12 hospitals, 200+ ambulatory sites, physician offices, medical campuses and other health services spanning a 47-county area.

“Anthem is an important payer partner and we are pleased to be back in the Anthem Medicare Advantage network,” said Carrie Harris-Muller, Senior Vice President, Population Health, OhioHealth. “Our partnership will allow us to provide care that is easy, accessible, and affordable to this important patient population.”

Anthem currently offers a number of health plans that meet the needs of individuals eligible for Medicare. These plans include Anthem MediBlue Preferred (HMO), Anthem MediBlue Prime Select (HMO), Anthem MediBlue Dual Advantage (HMO SNP), Anthem MediBlue Extra (HMO), Anthem MediBlue Essential (HMO), Anthem MediBlue Plus (HMO), and Anthem MediBlue Access (PPO).

These individuals include those who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid benefits; consumers who qualify for a special enrollment period, such as those who recently moved; or individuals who are turning 65 and newly eligible for Medicare.
