Securian Financial to Host Work|Life™ Exhibit for National Disability Employment Awareness Month

ST. PAUL, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–To celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) in October, Securian Financial will host Work|Life™, a traveling exhibit created by Lifeworks Services that raises awareness and challenges perceptions about employment experiences for people with disabilities.

NDEAM dates back to 1945 and its purpose is to highlight disability employment issues and to celebrate the many contributions of America’s workers with disabilities.

Disability inclusion is an unfamiliar topic to many people,” said Dexter Davis, Securian Financial’s chief diversity officer. “Lifeworks’ traveling exhibit provides a captivating platform for building a greater understanding and a larger discussion about disability employment.”

Developed by Lifeworks—a Minnesota nonprofit that serves more than 2,700 people with disabilities and their families—Work|Life™ uses photographs, personal accounts, data and design to address the disproportionate rate of unemployment among people with disabilities by exposing barriers to inclusion and showing the value of a diverse workforce.

We are so excited to unveil the Work|Life™ exhibit at Securian Financial,” said Ashley Oolman, Lifeworks’ disability inclusion consultant. “Their willingness to learn and grow with us as we develop innovative ways to foster inclusion has provided meaningful and lasting change for our communities and the people we serve.”

The exhibit opening will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at Securian Financial’s headquarters in downtown St. Paul (400 Robert Street N.). Jeffrey Brown, Lifeworks’ president and CEO, and Mr. Davis will give remarks at 11 a.m. The exhibit is open to the public and media, and will be onsite at Securian Financial through Friday, Oct. 4, 2019.

Employers and employees in all industries can learn more about how they can help remove employment barriers for people with disabilities—and host the traveling exhibit—by visiting www.lifeworks.org/worklifemn.
