Paul Blanco’s Good Car Company Responds to Attorney General’s Filing

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, Paul Blanco’s Good Car Company responded to the Attorney General’s filing of a civil suit (RG19036081) vowing to fight the allegations made against the company. In the suit, the Attorney General’s office demands penalties for alleged practices that are widespread and commonplace in the auto industry. The complaint largely focuses on technicalities. For example, it accuses Paul Blanco’s Good Car Company of stating in radio ads that “everyone can get financing,” when in fact, not every single consumer can be financed. The action also relies on very old advertising that has not been in place for years.

“Our family-run business has helped hard-working Californians who cannot afford or don’t have the credit score necessary to buy a car at other dealerships do so,” said Putu Blanco, CFO of the Paul Blanco’s Good Car Company. “Paul Blanco’s Good Car Company has rigorous controls and a culture of compliance in place to ensure California regulations are followed and consumers are protected. We will fight this misguided action vigorously to demonstrate to the Attorney General and his lawyers that our customers and California consumers come first.”

The family-run dealership has an outstanding record of operation with thousands of satisfied customers. It is the only major California minority-owned car dealership and the only one helmed by a female immigrant woman of color, Putu Blanco, who serves as the company’s chief financial officer. Since its formation, Paul Blanco’s Good Car Company has helped thousands of low-income Californians purchase cars on favorable terms.

Paul Blanco’s Good Car Company employs 488 Californians at eight California locations (Sacramento, Stockton, Oakland, Fairfield, Fresno, Bakersfield, Carson and the Inland Empire). The company services hundreds of cars each year for free in an effort to assist indigent community members in need of transportation to get to work and has been a fixture in many communities, having contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to charities in the communities where they operate. Recently, the Blanco family paid to rebuild the home of Sacramento shooting victim Stephon Clark’s family. The Blanco family is also active supporters of community charities where they operate, including My Sister’s House (a charity assisting Asian female victims of human trafficking).

“It’s unfortunate that the Attorney General’s office felt compelled to file a complaint against our company today,” added Blanco. “We will continue to provide much-needed services to Californians without a great credit score but who must have transportation to live, work and raise a family, and look forward to our day in court.”
