U.S. Census Bureau Commemorates Constitution Day

Census Officials to Provide 2020 Census Updates

Host Interactive Exhibit at the National Constitution Center

–(BUSINESS WIRE)–U.S. Census Bureau:

What: As part of a day-long event in Philadelphia, the U.S. Census Bureau will commemorate its Constitutional role to count every person living in the U.S.

On Constitution Day, the Census Bureau will hold a news conference in the Liberty View at Independence Visitor Center to update the members of the media on the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau will highlight the status of address canvassing, national hiring efforts and the integrated partnership and communication campaign.

The celebration will also include a historical exhibit at the National Constitution Center titled “Shape Your Future: A Census Experience.” The exhibit, geared toward thousands of middle- and high school students and their teachers, will feature:

  • A display of artifacts from each of the 23 previous decennial censuses.
  • Interactive opportunities for students to envision where they may live in the future and to vote for benefits from the census that might be most important to them (i.e. funding of roads, schools, parks or public safety)
  • A photo booth experience to remind students and their parents that they need to be counted in the 2020 Census.
  • Educational resources for teachers from the Statistics in Schools program.

Census Bureau officials will also participate in the “Constitution’s Birthday Party” hosted by the National Constitution Center, featuring a birthday cake and special appearances by “George Washington” and “Abraham Lincoln.”
