2019 U.S. Top Startups List Shows Surge in Cannabis, Convenience and Transportation
SUNNYVALE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#LinkedInTopStartups—LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, announced today the 2019 LinkedIn Top Startups list, identifying the top 50 hottest U.S. startups to work for right now as determined by billions of actions of LinkedIn’s 645+ million members.
Topping the U.S. list this year is cloud-based data warehouse firm Snowflake (#1), cannabis-centric wellness company Dosist (#2), industrial sensor developer Samsara (#3), delivery service DoorDash (#4) and financial service company Brex (#5).
“The annual Top Startups list is a reflection of how work is changing, what new industries are emerging and rapidly growing and where people want to work now,” said Jessi Hempel, senior editor at large at LinkedIn. “Over 11,000 positions were filled at the Top Startups over the last year, and there are thousands of open jobs available at the companies right now.”
Trends from the 2019 U.S. LinkedIn Top Startups list include:
- CANNABIS IS GROWING. Dosist made its debut on the list at #2, putting the emerging cannabis industry on the map and tapping into continued growth in the wellness industry.
- CONVENIENCE IS KING. The delivery-on-demand industry shows no sign of slowing with DoorDash (#4), driverless delivery innovator Nuro (#10) and food-focused Daily Harvest (#42) claiming spots on the list, making life easier and tastier for consumers.
- HOT STARTUPS ARE MAKING MOVES. Newcomer to the list Lime (#12) joins scooter company Bird (#19) and self-driving innovators Zoox (#15), Aurora (#18) and Voyage (#35) — startups not just redefining the way we move, but also where we want to work.
- SPORTS MAKES A PLAY. Sports-related products and services are booming with sports-betting service SimpleBet (#17), newly relaunched football league XFL (#22) and Lebron James’ sports media network Uninterrupted (#39) all making it onto the Top Startups list.
Here are the top ten companies on the list, and what professionals need to know about them:
- Snowflake Computing, which helps companies move their data onto the cloud, leaped to first place from #20 last year, and is currently hiring for positions in engineering and sales.
- Dosist is the first cannabis-centric company to ever make the Top Startups U.S. list. The company is rapidly growing due to the legalization of recreational marijuana (in 11 U.S. states so far) combined with its high-gloss marketing appeal.
- Samsara combines the power of hardware (think sensors and cameras) with analytical software to boost efficiency in industries like trucking and food production, and it has 200+ open roles across everything from engineering to sales to marketing.
- DoorDash has doubled its employee base every year in its six-year history, and with its recent acquisition of competitor Caviar, the startup is revving up its growth.
- Brex, another newcomer to the list, is attempting to reinvent B2B financial services, starting with a first-of-its-kind corporate card for startups based on funding rather than credit history.
- Good American, a fitness fashion line co-founded by Khloe Kardashian, marks a shift in the retail landscape with its success as a body-positive company offering an inclusive range of sizes.
- Robinhood, the only company from 2018 to remain in the top ten, continues to grow by recruiting people who share its vision of democratizing the financial system.
- Peloton Interactive, another newcomer to the list, is shaking up the fitness industry with its live and recorded classes connected to at-home equipment.
- Compass has become the country’s largest independent real estate brokerage and is planning to hire hundreds across its product and engineering teams over the next year to help build its end-to-end platform.
- Nuro, a robotics company in the race to get self-driving right with its small delivery pods, is expanding across all areas of its business with open roles in marketing, communications, engineering and human resources.
