Construction Industry Thriving from Hispanic Participation and Leadership

After the Great Recession of the mid-2000s, the construction industry faced major setbacks, including a loss of more than 40% of its workforce. In fact, employment trends show that in 2015, 73% of Hispanics working in construction were born in a different country. Additionally, almost 60% are not US citizens. Given the workforce loss in the Great Recession, the participation of Hispanic people, citizen or not, is crucial to ensuring that the industry doesn”™t have a hiring crisis.
A notable example in which Hispanic participation proved crucial to the construction industry is in Houston, Texas, where 68% of Houston Hispanics work in construction. This not only allows for massive financial gains but also proved vital to the rebuilding of the city after Hurricane Harvey.
