Expo Contratista Demonstrates Importance of Hispanic Construction Industry

Construction Industry Thriving from Hispanic Participation and Leadership

HOUSTON & DALLAS, Texas & SAN ANTONIO, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#constructionbusiness–Hispanic participation in the US construction industry has created a powerful workforce, as Hispanic workers contribute to the craft, its businesses, and communities at large.

Hispanic participation has proved absolutely vital to the industry’s growth and expansion. Construction has always been an essential service for the development of the United States, but the influx of natural disasters and crumbling infrastructure have made a powerful construction industry more important than ever.

After the Great Recession of the mid-2000s, the construction industry faced major setbacks, including a loss of more than 40% of its workforce. This was due to the fact that a considerable amount of foreign Hispanic workers returned to their home countries, and many Hispanic Americans changed careers to subsidize their incomes.

In a Pew Research Report as recent as 2015, it was revealed that more Mexicans were leaving the US than entering. Given that a large number of Hispanic construction workers were born outside of the US, a decline in immigration is damaging to the construction industry as it continues to expand.

In fact, employment trends show that in 2015, 73% of Hispanics working in construction were born in a different country. Additionally, almost 60% are not US citizens. Given the workforce loss in the Great Recession, the participation of Hispanic people, citizen or not, is crucial to ensuring that the industry doesn”™t have a hiring crisis.

A notable example in which Hispanic participation proved crucial to the construction industry is in Houston, Texas, where 68% of Houston Hispanics work in construction. This not only allows for massive financial gains but also proved vital to the rebuilding of the city after Hurricane Harvey.

A major contribution made to the construction industry is through Expo Contratista, the only Hispanic construction expo in the US. Expo Contratista is having great success in bringing together both small and medium contractors and providing opportunities to expand their businesses. Larger companies such as LOWE”™S Bobcat Company, ASCO, and many more have been able to use Expo Contratista to further connect with the rapidly growing construction sector.

Sergio Terreros, marketing director of the Expo Contratista and President of 11/11 Media Hispanic Marketing Firm, remarks on the importance of the trade show.

“Hispanics have become an essential part of the growth of the industry, which is why the Expo Contratista Trade Show was created. The Expo Contratista helps builders and companies around the US connect in a meaningful and cultured way,” says Terreros.
