With our combined effort, we can create stronger and healthier communities.”
Empower emerged as the second largest retirement services provider in the U.S. in late 2014 as a result of Great-West Financial’s acquisition of the J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services (RPS) business and the integration of the retirement services unit of Putnam Investments. Today Empower serves 9.1 million Americans across all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Guam, through 39,000 retirement plans with $638 billion in assets under administration.
In Colorado, as of August, 2019, Empower serves 212,000 residents through 4,900 retirement plans and administers $16.3 billion in assets on behalf of those Coloradans.
The company employs more than 6,200 people with approximately 2,700 employed in its headquarters in Greenwood Village, Colorado. In addition to its metro Denver headquarters, Empower has corporate offices in Kansas City, Milwaukee, the Boston area, Somerset, NJ and Banaglore, India.
Empower launched its ACT program in 2016 to support the volunteer and giving efforts of its associates. Through the program, associates are provided 16 hours a year of paid volunteer time off from work. Empower also matches money donated to nonprofit organizations by associates of up to $5,000 annually. Since its inception, Empower and its employees have given $7.85 million to nonprofit organizations across the country. Another key aspect of the program includes its Board Leadership Program, which supports associates who serve on the boards of nonprofit organizations.
“I’m proud of our associates who are passionate about giving back to their communities,” Murphy said. “Our associates have brought great nonprofit organizations to our attention and we look forward to continued collaborative philanthropy.”
