Passport Academy Charter School Changes Name, but Reinforces Goal to Support Students-in-Need Throughout Pittsburgh Area

PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Passport Charter Academy School (PACS) has recently amended its name, dropping “Hill House,” after the dissolution of the non-related Hill House Association earlier this year. The school will also move to a new location at 933 Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh in advance of the new semester this fall. School begins on September 3.

PACS is a tuition-free public charter school for under-credited students aged 17-21 who have not been able to finish their high school education.

“Passport Academy Charter School will continue to concentrate on what we do best, taking care of our PACS family in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas,” said Principal Bo Jackson, “and this strategic change is designed to help us reach that goal.”

Just last month, PACS had one of its best graduating classes ever with over 90 students, 5% more than 2018, and had over 1,000 people in attendance for the ceremony at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall.

“Our students are everything to us, and we want them to know we are here for them, whatever they need, to get them across the finish line,” said Jackson. “We feel confident our curriculum can help them achieve whatever it is they want out of life.”

Students enroll in PACS for a number of reasons, including those looking to escape bullying, some who may have fallen academically off track, or those looking for an alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar classroom setting. PACS students access a robust online and in-person curriculum in the core subjects and a host of electives, and attend classes taught by state-licensed teachers.
