Emmy Award-winning “Days of Our Lives” Launches Digital Companion Series to Complement NBC Telecasts

“Days of our Lives: The Digital Series” premieres on The DOOL App August 1

First season of digital series features exclusive storylines with “Days” stars Billy Flynn, Kate Mansi, Austin Peck and newcomer Rachele Schank

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Fans of “Days of our Lives” will soon be able to go beyond the show’s broadcast stories when the daytime drama series launches its new original companion series, “Days of our Lives: The Digital Series.”

The first season of the new digital series premieres Thursday, August 1, on The DOOL App with an eight-episode arc titled “Chad and Abby in Paris.” The first three episodes will be available immediately with the remaining five episodes released weekly thereafter. The episodes will also be available on the NBC app and NBC.com one week after streaming on The DOOL App. Each episode will be approximately 6-10 minutes in length.

The DOOL App, which was recently launched as an all-access platform for fans of “Days of our Lives,” is the first and only app exclusively dedicated to a daytime soap opera. The launch of the digital series marks the first time a daytime drama series has spawned an original streaming series to complement the broadcast show.

The first season of the digital series will focus on fan-favorite characters Chad and Abigail (Billy Flynn and Kate Mansi). These two characters, who are a popular couple on the show, left Salem to reconnect in Paris and have since been off the broadcast show for several months. Fans will be able to catch up with Chad and Abby and see what they’ve been up to in Paris before their return to Salem on the broadcast show this fall.

Salem heartthrob Austin Reed (Austin Peck), who’s been in Europe with Carrie Brady for over a year, will make a surprise appearance in Paris. A new character, Juliet (Rachele Schank), will also be introduced to the “Days of our Lives” family.

“This new scripted digital series was created to complement storylines while enhancing the viewers’ experience as they watch the broadcast show,” said Greg Meng, co-executive producer of “Days of our Lives.” “The DOOL App serves as our platform for delivering this and other original content to fans who want an interactive and multimedia experience as well as a way to stay connected to the show. ‘Days’ has been a leader when it comes to innovation, going as far back as 1965 when we were the first to broadcast in color.”

The digital series was written by “Days of our Lives” head writer Ron Carlivati and produced by Corday Productions.

The DOOL App was developed by the Corday Productions team of Greg Meng, creative director (and co-executive producer, “Days of our Lives”); Michael Fairman, content producer; and Maya Frangie, director of communications and strategic initiatives. The DOOL App is a new all-access platform for “Days of our Lives” fans to get more of the show they love, including breaking news from the set, exclusive original content, backstage videos with the cast, quizzes and interactive games, fan-favorite clips, weekly recaps and other fun ways to connect with the cast.
