Sunrise Senior Living Announces 2019 Silver National Quality Award Winners

23 communities recognized for continuous learning; developing effective approaches that help improve organizational performance and enhance residents’ overall wellbeing

MCLEAN, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sunrise Senior Living celebrates its 23 communities recently selected to receive the 2019 Silver – Achievement in Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). This distinguished award is the second of three progressive levels within the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program, which recognizes long-term and post-acute care communities across the United States that have demonstrated their commitment to performance improvement. Sunrise has now received more than 300 National Quality Awards—more than any other assisted living provider.

“The Silver Quality Award validates our evidenced-based, systematic approach to care and services, and our commitment to continuous performance improvement,” said Sue Coppola, chief clinical officer for Sunrise. “The compassionate individuals who care for our residents work together to continually evaluate and build on the personalized care and services we provide in our Sunrise communities. The AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards are an esteemed recognition within the health care continuum, and we are thrilled that our devotion to the senior population has been officially recognized at the national level.”

Implemented by AHCA/NCAL in 1996, the National Quality Award program centers on the core values and criteria of the nationally recognized Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. The program includes three progressive levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Silver-level award recognizes each community’s continued endeavor to learn and develop effective approaches that help improve organizational performance and enhance residents’ overall wellbeing.

In addition to submitting an in-depth organizational profile, Silver Award recipients must provide a thorough assessment of their individual approach to quality care and demonstrate its effective deployment within the community. The Silver Award provides a strong foundation for taking the final step in the National Quality Award Program, which is Gold – Excellence in Quality. Sunrise of Gurnee, IL, became one of the first two assisted living providers to be awarded the Gold National Quality Award in 2018.

The National Quality Award program complements Sunrise’s strong existing quality process, which is a blended program that helps drive quality by monitoring and measuring key clinical and non-clinical indicators. This systematic approach supports Sunrise’s holistic management of delivering care and services, team member engagement, and customer satisfaction.
