NASHVILLE, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–STARS, a 2017 recipient of a grant from the Office on Women’s Health (OWH), launched its opioid misuse prevention campaign, Have The Conversation, last year and has recently expanded outreach to include video livestreams.
STARS’ weekly livestreams host industry professionals to discuss issues related to identifying opioid misuse with loved ones and having conversations that ultimately lead to recovery. This year’s livestream guests include DeWayne Holman, April Barnes, Paris Brown and Sharon Kay.
Have the Conversation is a statewide and national campaign led by STARS Nashville aimed at empowering individuals to have a conversation about opioid misuse. STARS Nashville was one of 16 organizations awarded three years of funding by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and OWH to address the prevention of prescription and illegal opioid misuse by women.
“The goal of our livestreams is to provide a free and accessible resource for families and community members to speak directly with an expert who can answer questions about addiction,” said STARS’ James Bush. “We hope that the livestreams help those with loved ones who are struggling with addiction.”
In addition to utilizing evidence-based substance abuse services, Have the Conversation incorporates STARS’ Youth Overcoming Drug Abuse intensive outpatient treatment program, which helps adolescents ages 13–18 with substance misuse and co-occurring mental health disorders.
STARS has also recently become an authorized distributor of Naloxone (Narcan), a medication that can treat narcotic overdose in an emergency situation. Contact STARS at 615-983-6818 for more information.
