AppTek and yellaUmbrella Announce Systems Integration Partnership to Provide Market-Leading Tools for Media Localization

New relationship combines best-in-class automatic speech recognition
and neural machine translation solutions with advanced media processing
and authoring systems

MCLEAN, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–AppTek,
a leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML),
Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Neural Machine Translation (NMT),
today announced that yellaUmbrella,
experts in media localization and access service technologies, have
chosen AppTek’s ASR and MT technologies for integration with
yellaUmbrella’s Nebula and Stellar media processing systems.

The integration will provide class-leading media localization and access
service solutions to the broadcast and media industry. Both AppTek and
yellaUmbrella understand the growing need to provide language specific
media content to local audiences worldwide, and media access services to
the hard-of-hearing and partially sighted communities.

“Technologies that provide productivity improvements when creating
subtitles and captions for the media industry aid the spread of language
localization and access services for wider audiences,” said
yellaUmbrella’s Managing Director Matt Deakin. “We are impressed by
AppTek’s Deep Neural Network technologies for ASR and MT, and have
chosen these highly innovative solutions that will help our customers
drive significant productivity gains.”

Dr. Volker Steinbiss, Managing Director of AppTek GmbH (Germany) noted
that “Working with yellaUmbrella creates a unique combination of
subtitling expertise and advanced technologies that will help media and
broadcast subtitling customers access more languages, and provide them
with a greater resource to help manage production needs and budgets.”

yellaUmbrella intends to invest significant engineering effort
integrating AppTek’s ASR and MT services into its Nebula microservices
platform. This will facilitate fast and easy-to-use services both for
fully automated subtitling workflows and as a productivity aid in
Stellar, a timed text authoring system.

AppTek recently announced a breakthrough for the subtitling and
captioning markets with its Intelligent Line Segmentation©
patent-pending model, unveiled at the March 2019 NAB Show in Las Vegas.
This technology was developed specifically to tackle automated
segmentation of text into subtitle lines and units, a challenge that the
industry had previously struggled with and which prevented more
widespread adoption of language technologies by the entertainment market.

“We are looking forward to leveraging yellaUmbrella’s technologies and
expertise in the broadcast and media markets along with the very
flexible Nebula and Stellar platforms. This partnership will also
provide us with top quality tools for transcription viewing and editing
linked to the source media,” said Steinbiss.
