MIAMI–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Interval International, a prominent worldwide provider of vacation
services, recently honored David Morritt, developer and CEO of Morritt
Properties Cayman Ltd., for his ongoing contributions to the Cayman
Islands’ tourism industry. The company also recognized Hon. Moses
Kirkconnell, Cayman Islands’ deputy premier and minister of District
Administration, Tourism and Transport, for his leadership in the tourism
sector.
The awards were presented during a reception hosted by Interval in
recognition of the 30th anniversary of Morritt’s Resort. The special
event was attended by Morritt’s executive team and resort staff,
government officials, and industry partners.
“We are very proud to recognize David for his extraordinary vision and
enduring commitment to shared ownership,” said Marcos Agostini,
Interval’s executive vice president of business development. “Morritt’s
Resort has been an important factor in the economic growth of the East
End community and, in turn, the Cayman Islands’ tourism industry.”
Since it opened in 1989, Morritt’s Resort has expanded to include three
properties and is currently the country’s largest shared ownership
developer. Plans for a $30 million expansion to include a seven-story
building as the centerpiece of the resort were recently announced.
During the reception, Interval took the occasion to highlight the many
accomplishments of Hon. Kirkconnell. “Since assuming his role, Minister
Kirkconnell has encouraged investment in the country’s tourism sector
and has shown ongoing support of shared ownership,” Agostini noted.
Under Kirkconnell, the Cayman Islands has experienced significant growth
in visitor arrivals, in part attributed to the country’s commitment to
infrastructure development. These include an approximately $67 million
expansion project at Owen Roberts Airport that has almost tripled the
size of the existing airport to accommodate 2.5 million travelers per
year.
