Risk management and cybersecurity training program enhances
employment opportunities for students
MCLEAN, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–African-Americans make up only three
percent of the information security analysts in the U.S. in a field
where jobs are expected to grow 18 percent through 2024, prompting the Thought
Leadership & Innovation Foundation (TLI) to embark on a new
project that fosters risk management and cybersecurity training programs
at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other
Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). A non-profit, TLI welcomes support
from those who recognize the need to introduce training that leads to
employment opportunities for minority students and concurrently, empower
these institutions to remain financially sustainable.
“These institutions face significant risk to operations when unforeseen
financial problems occur, such as declining enrollment, rising
operational costs, financial deficits and changes to state or federal
funding,” says Bill Oldham, founder and chairman of the Board, TLI. “We
are focused on changing this situation, introducing a robust risk
management and cybersecurity training program that blends education and
paid work experience opportunities for students. We fully expect that
this innovative student empowerment program will help HBCUs and MSIs to
address the challenges for providing relevant, timely, and market-based
training and education in an ever-evolving environment.”
TLI will provide the necessary human resources and tools to establish a
risk management framework and achieve the critical knowledge transfer
that will enable sustainable risk management and mitigation processes.
“For students, the program enables them to work while going to school,
giving them the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in their
chosen field of study and go on to high-paying jobs,” adds Oldham. “This
approach exemplifies our work to create innovative, sustainable, and
transformative solutions with strategic partners and thought leaders
from industry, academia, government, and the non-profit community.”
