Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney to Share Trade Policy Insights at the JOC Canada Trade Conference – the Country’s Largest Container Shipping Conference

WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Brian Mulroney, former prime minister of Canada, will address the 3rd
Annual JOC Canada Trade Conference, June 3-5 in Toronto where he will
share his perspective on a wide range of issues, from the outlook for
the Canadian economy to how Ottawa’s trade policy can become more
dynamic amid rising global protectionism.

The only conference focused on Canadian container shipping, JOC Canada
comes amid increasing pressures on supply chains supporting importers
and exporters. The conference brings together the country’s top
logistics leaders to discuss how best to invest in infrastructure,
collaborate and tap new technology to keep supply chains humming.

Former Prime Minister Mulroney on June 4 will participate in a “fireside
chat”-style discussion with JOC executive editor Mark Szakonyi about how
Canada trade can be more competitive amid a fast-changing environment.
The conference is produced by The Journal of Commerce, part of the
Maritime & Trade business at global business information provider IHS
Markit
(Nasdaq: INFO).

“Having been instrumental in the forging of the North American Free
Trade Agreement, we’re delighted that the Right Honorable Brian Mulroney
will share his perspective on the current trading relationship with the
United States and how Canada can build upon its already strong trade
position,” said Szakonyi, who is the chairman of the Canada Trade
Conference. “As Canada faces pressure to expedite freight infrastructure
projects and undertakes a review of its port authority structure, Mr.
Mulroney’s experience in driving privatization, both in terms of
challenges and opportunities, will be illuminating.”

Mr. Mulroney served as Canada’s 18th prime minister from September 1984
through June 1993. He was re-elected with a majority government in 1988,
becoming the first Canadian prime minister in 35 years to win successive
majority governments and the first Conservative prime minister to do so
in 100 years.

His government introduced such initiatives as the Canada-U.S. Free Trade
Agreement, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the
Canada-U.S. Acid Rain Treaty and the Canada-U.S. Arctic Cooperation
Agreement. Prime Minister Mulroney’s government also introduced a wave
of privatization, a low inflation policy, historic tax reform, extensive
deregulation and budget-cutting policies, among other initiatives.

The JOC Canada Trade Conference is Canada’s largest container shipping
event, bringing together more than 300 attendees representing cargo
owners, forwarders, ocean carriers, logistics companies, ports,
terminals and railroads.

The full agenda and registration for the June 3-5 event is available at https://www.joc-canada-trade.com

The two-day program is based on independent, unbiased editorial content
developed by the JOC team of specialized business journalists. The JOC
is the historic Journal of Commerce shipping newspaper that is now a
focused business intelligence unit within IHS Markit, concentrating on
international containerized transportation and logistics, freight
markets, technology and strategy.
