Mercedes-Benz Canada and its national dealer network are pleased to report the company sold 2,906 passenger vehicles, vans and smarts in January. The top volume drivers for the month reflect the continuing popularity of the company’s luxury light trucks, with the GLC, GLE, and GLS SUVs making up three of the top five most popular Mercedes-Benz models. The C-Class Sedan and Sprinter Vans rounded out the month’s top five performers.

In all, 2,523 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and luxury light trucks were delivered in January. Passenger car sales totalled 1,118 units, while the number of SUVs sold reached 1,386 units, representing 44.6% and 55.4% of market share respectively. Standout passenger cars for the month included the E-Class family of vehicles, whose sales increased by 3.5% compared to January 2018 and the new A-Class Hatch, which has been selling steadily since it was introduced to the Canadian lineup. In terms of luxury light trucks, the GLS grew in popularity, with 70.5% year-over-year sales growth, while the GLC Coupe gained ground with 6.9% growth compared to January 2018.

In January, Mercedes-Benz Vans delivered 383 vehicles, bolstered by ongoing demand for the Sprinter Cargo and Passenger Vans. The Sprinter was among Mercedes-Benz Canada’s top five volume-drivers throughout 2018.

19 smart fortwo vehicles were delivered in the first month of 2019.

Mercedes-Benz Canada’s Pre-Owned division reported January sales of 1,108 units. That total comprised 869 Certified Pre-Owned units for a 78.4% penetration, up 2.3% from 76.1% penetration in January 2018.

“There is a lot to look forward to in 2019 as we introduce exciting passenger cars, innovative technologies, and a series of updates to our SUV lineup,” said Brian D. Fulton, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. “We saw strong demand for SUVs throughout 2018, which has continued into the beginning of this year. Our product portfolio is evolving to match that demand and I am confident we have the product and people we need to continue to build momentum in 2019.”
