The students of Canadian International School (CIS) Bangalore celebrate ‘Joy of Giving’ to focus on activities and fundraisers that give back to society. The celebration provides students with the opportunity to contribute time, money, materials, and skills to benefit numerous individuals, organizations, and causes.
“The Joy of Giving is a ‘festival of philanthropy’ that aims at giving and spreading joy with the underprivileged of the society. The week is celebrated every year at CIS by engaging people through the ‘acts of giving’ – money, time, resources, and skills,” said Ms. Asha Samuel, CAS Coordinator, Canadian International School. “Our IB students organized the event and were involved in helping with fundraising, advertising the event, and helping the community understand the importance of giving. This event showcases the implementation of various aspects of the IB Learner profile like being caring, a communicator, thinker, and gain knowledge about different charities to become a more principled person,” added Ms. Asha.
Canadian International School has been involved in the ‘Joy of Giving’ celebrations for the past 12 years. The event, held annually from Gandhi Jayanthi onwards, is marked by a week of activities aimed at encouraging students to participate in community service. This is one facet of the students’ and the school’s efforts to contribute to the greater community.
This year the students of Canadian International School will be donating the proceeds from the celebration to charities such as Sparsha Shelter for the Homeless, The Little Sisters of the Poor, Habitat for Humanity, Home of Hope, and several more.
