International distribution of original movie follows iQIYI partnership with Hollywood’s The H Collective, including co-production of “xXx 4” starring Vin Diesel
iQIYI Inc. (NASDAQ: IQ) (“iQIYI” or the “Company”), an innovative market-leading online entertainment service in China, announced today that its original action film “The Blizzard” will be screened at several movie theaters in Canada starting September 14th local time.
“The Blizzard,” directed by Jiang Kaiyang and starring Nie Yuan, Tan Kai, and Qu Gaowei, tells a gripping story of friendship and betrayal, as a policeman embarks on an emotional pursuit of his former police academy classmate-turned-criminal, which turns out be part of an even greater conspiracy. Nie Yuan was also a lead actor in this summer’s mega-hit costume drama “Story of Yanxi Palace”, which has been streamed over 15 billion times on the iQIYI platform.
“The Blizzard” is iQIYI’s latest foray into the international film market. Earlier this year, iQIYI expanded its partnership with The H Collective, a Hollywood production company. Under the agreement, iQIYI will co-produce or invest in six films to be distributed to both the American and Chinese markets.
One of the most high-profile projects to come out of the partnership with The H Collective is the blockbuster film “xXx 4”, the fourth installment in the popular action film franchise starring Vin Diesel. Chinese actor Wang Yuan (also known as Roy Wang), who is also a member of China’s hottest boy band TFBoys, will play a leading role in xXx 4 alongside Vin Diesel. Production of the movie is expected to start early next year.
