He shared it with millions in northern India. The practice was out of popularity. Until, Burmese-Indian meditation mentor, S.N. Goenka came into the picture. It was in the 1970s when Goenka started teaching the vipassana meditation technique. He died in 2013. But, his students have established 200 retreat centers around the world for meditation.
As per Goenka, beginners need this art of vipassana over a 10-day silent retreat. The rules are – No sex, no drugs, no lying, no stealing. No religious worship, no physical contact, no reading, writing. Communication is prohibited by gestures, speech or notes. Any type of communication is not allowed.
