Washington-based businesses join campaign that encourages Washingtonians to support locally amid COVID-19 pandemic
YAKIMA, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Businesses across Washington State are coming together to participate in a statewide social media campaign, Don’t Roam, Support from Home, aimed at raising awareness for the challenges facing small businesses amid COVID-19 and how Washingtonians can support them remotely.
With an unprecedented number of people sheltering in place and avoiding non-essential shopping trips to flatten the curve, many business owners and employees are experiencing financial hardship. In Washington State, the initial unemployment claims for the week ending March 28th jumped by more than 2,240% over the 10-week average preceding the crisis, with nearly 182,000 claims filed.
This new campaign, launched by Yakima-based Solarity Credit Union, provides free non-branded graphics and social media copy for individuals and businesses to share as a call to action to help safeguard the health and livelihoods of small businesses and the many thousands of family incomes they create.
“Small businesses are critical to our state economy,” said Mina Worthington, President/CEO of Solarity Credit Union. “We hope this campaign will encourage communities to join together to support small businesses in safe and socially responsible ways during this challenging time.”
There are multiple ways that Washington businesses and communities can get involved, including sharing the Don’t Roam, Support from Home campaign graphics on social media channels and encouraging others to participate. Small businesses can also share their personal stories and ideas for how consumers can support them.
